National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and will be held on 15 – 21 May 2023. This years theme for National Volunteer Week 2023 is The Change Makers. The week-long event recognises the vital support that the millions of volunteers in our country provide to their communities and encourages people to consider volunteering.

The Bega Valley Business Forum is a volunteer organisation that supports local businesses through six local Chambers of Commerce. Each Chamber has a committee with around seven people on it, so that is over forty volunteer positions that need to be filled every year.

Chair of the forum Nigel Ayling says ” Our volunteers do amazing work all year round, from running community events, undertaking community projects like town gardens and infrastructure, fund raising events, running workshops, and helping business get grant funding and access to other support.”

“We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to help our Chambers. You don’t have to take on an executive role or attend committee meetings every week. You can contribute in a manner and time that suits you. We need people to do social media, help organise events, apply for grants and all sorts of things.”

There are lots of benefits associated with volunteering including, making new friends, providing you with a sense of purpose, providing a sense of community, improving your confidence, feeling happier, learning something new and exploring new interests.
