The Bega Valley Business Forum is set to run a number of governance workshops across the shire. The workshops provide not for profit, committees, community groups and organisations with tailored and practical information that help them adopt good governance principles.
The workshops will cover a range of topics including constitutions, committees roles and responsibilities, finances, compliance, risk management, culture, membership and succession planning.
Forum Chair Nigel Ayling says ” Whether you are a sporting club, service club, Chamber of Commerce or other NFP organisation, you are welcome to attend and take advantage of this great opportunity to learn about the requirements for your committee and organisation.”
Mary Hoodless from Karoo Consultancy is a governance expert who ran a workshop for the forum last year which was very valuable and the Forum wanted to be able to share the same sort of insights with other chambers and associations.
Ms Hoodless says “If you are an incorporated association and part of a committee, you have obligations to ensure that your organisation meets all the necessary regulations, submit appropriate reports and run in accordance with your constitution. These workshops will give committees clear insights in to what they need to do and identify any areas where they need to make changes. It is simple and practical advice.”
There will be 3 workshops held over 2 days across the shire to try and accommodate as many organisations as possible. The forum received some funding through the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal to build capacity with the Chambers so there is no cost to organisations wanting to attend.
