The Bega Valley Business Forum has announced a series of significant changes to its membership structure and governance following its recent committee meeting. These changes are designed to increase inclusivity, broaden the organisation’s skill base, and secure long-term sustainability for the business community across the region.
One of the key changes passed was a motion allowing Affiliate Members to nominate and stand for positions on the committee. Previously, these roles were reserved exclusively for Full Members. This change opens the door for a wider range of individuals, particularly those with specialist skills or experience who may not be part of a Chamber of Commerce, to take an active role in shaping the future of business in the Bega Valley. “This is an exciting step forward,” said Nigel Ayling, President of the Bega Valley Business Forum. “By inviting Affiliate Members to participate at the committee level, we are expanding our talent pool and ensuring that our leadership reflects the diverse strengths of our local business community.”
The Forum has also passed a motion to ensure each Full Member (Chamber) will always be able to hold a position on the committee, ensuring fair representation across all member groups while still encouraging broader participation.
In line with these changes, the organisation has also approved a name change from Bega Valley Business Forum Incorporated to Bega Valley Business. This rebranding reflects a more modern and progressive vision for the future, with a stronger focus on regional business development and collaboration. “These reforms represent a pivotal moment for our organisation,” Ayling added. “They ensure that Bega Valley Business Forum remains relevant, adaptable, and representative of the full spectrum of businesses and professionals who call our region home.”
The Forum believes these changes will make the organisation more dynamic, attract new voices to the table, and help develop a more sustainable foundation for future business support and advocacy.
